The main objective of this paper has been to analyze the financial implications of emerging and future technologies in the context of 4G. With a European 4G operator based in the 3G technology as a reference case, the paper analyzes and synthesizes the financial impacts and prospects of two 4G visions. As a general conclusion, European operators and interest groups are served well to focus on making the 3G networks a success, since both 4G visions have challenging financials.
