简介
Instrumented indention testing at elevated temperatures is a promising technique for measuring the creep properties of materials. Here, we report an experimental study of the effects of crystal orientation on indentation creep. Indentation creep tests were systematically conducted on single grains in a coarse-grained sample of -tin with the grains having [001], [023], and [010] crystal orientations. For comparison, uniaxial compression tests were also conducted on bulk polycrystalline samples. The results show that indentation creep clearly exhibits a crystal orientation dependence, with the creep resistance increasing with orientation in the order [010], [023], and [001]. The uniaxial power-law stress exponent measured in compression tests is similar to that observed by indentation, especially for the grain with an orientation that matches the texture in the polycrystalline sample.
