Systems, methods, and other embodiments associated with controlling a wireless access point are described. According to one embodiment, an access point controller is configured to control a wireless access point. In one embodiment, the access point controller includes a detection logic configured to determine whether a wireless station that is wirelessly communicating with the wireless access point is within a predetermined distance to the wireless access point. In one embodiment, the wireless access point is configured to trans mit signals at a first transmission rate within a first transmis sion range.
