简介
The transport sector recorded the highest energy consumption (28.2% of the total consumption) in Australia in 2018–19. Road transport accounted for almost three-quarters of energy consumption by the transport sector (Department of Industry, Science, Energy and Resources 2020). There are opportunities for TMR to explore the application of more efficient road operations technologies (eg traffic signals, tunnel systems, ITS, etc.) to help reduce energy consumption. The objective of this project is to investigate what energy savings can be extracted for the top consuming road operations including: ITS devices (predominantly intelligent traffic systems and traffic signals) and tunnel systems. This report presents the findings of: an inventory review which identifies the existing electricity inventory; a literature review of available identified options for energy reduction opportunities for road operations infrastructure; and a hgh-level cost-benefit analysis (CBA) of an energy reduction solution selected from the findings of the inventory and literature review. The energy reduction solution selected for the CBA was chosen in collaboration with TMR.
