A digital image processing method for detecting faces in a digital color image comprises the steps of: providing a dis tributed face detection system having complementary classi? ers, Wherein the classi? ers are complementary in a fre quency domain; selecting classi? er parameters for the complementary classi? ers from a plurality of different parameter generating sources, at least one of Which is con trollable by human input; recon? guring the complementary classi? ers in the distributed face detection system according to the selected classi? er parameters; and detecting faces using the distributed face detection system.
