Intestinal ultrasound (IUS) is gaining increasing acceptance as a reliable tool for the tight monitoring of ulcerative colitis (UC). Although several IUS scores have been specifically developed for UC, none has been formally implemented into official recommendations of international scientific societies. The International Bowel Ultrasound Segmental Activity Score (IBUS-SAS) has been initially developed for the assessment of Crohn’s disease (CD) 1 and recently validated by our group in comparison to other IUS scores for CD2.
Here, we aimed to prospectively investigate the use of IBUS-SAS in the context of UC and to compare its performance with other known IUS scores for UC, using endoscopy as the reference standard.
