Brassica juncea given 6 cm water/irrigation at irrigation water:cumulative pan evaporation ratios of 0.4, 0.6 or 0.8 (2, 3 and 4 irrigations, resp.) gave the highest seed yields of 1.52 t/ha in 1984-85 and 1.31 t in 1985-86 with 3 irrigations compared with 0.80 and 0.68 t, resp., under rainfed conditions. Yields with 120 kg N/ha were 1.02 and 1.75 t in the 2 years, resp., compared with 0.42-0.44 t without N.
