Many acridids possess novel genetic systems which may provide a useful taxonomic tool. The male karyotypes of 19 species of acridids collected in Pakistan were studied. The use is described of rings and rods, in addition to the size of the chromosomes or the position of the centromere, as a new taxonomic tool.
