简介
Effects of excess boron (B) and salinity on six varieties of wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) differing in their tolerance to B and salinity were evaluated. Higher reductions in root and shoot length, fresh and dry weight of root and shoot were observed with increase in B and salt concentrations in the nutrient medium, whereas shoot Na content increased and shoot K content decreased. Varieties KRL 35, Kharchia 65 and BT-Schomburgk showed relatively lesser reduction in growth parameters than KRL 210, HD 2009 and Schomburgk. B x Salinity interactions on B, Na and K were found significant. B concentration in roots and shoots increased as a result of increasing levels of applied B and salt. Considerable variations were observed between varieties in response to high levels of B and salt. Results showed that effects of boron and salinity were more damaging than boron alone and B-salinity interactions are additive.
