A novel method to generate ultra-wideband monocycle pulses based on birefringence time delay in polarisation-maintaining fibre (PMF) is proposed, and experimentally demonstrated. Two polarity-reverse pulses are generated by polarisation modulation, using a single phase modulator. They are delayed in PMF with enough time to generate monocycle pulse.
