To mitigate and address climate change, greener transportation modes and mobility services are in great need. Although Green Information Systems (Green IS)—specifically designed to increase environmental sustainability—can support behavioral changes, there is limited research on whether Green IS usage coincides with sustainable real-world behavior. Against this background, we combine the Theory of Planned Behavior with the Technology Acceptance Model to study the interplay of employees’ Green IS usage and actual real-world behavior. Specifically, we surveyed 211 employees of a larger Western European company in the context of a recently introduced company-wide mobile application for business trip ridesharing.
