A study was conducted to determine the rate of infestation, causes of disturbance in feeding, sleeping and reproductive behaviour and ecological conditions of poultry lice in both sexes of domestic fowl. Four groups of domestic fowl were observed. Each group contained 4 birds in a single cage. Chicken lice were checked periodically in 10 days. Seven species of chewing lice parasitizing different breeds of domestic fowls were observed. All species have a particular niche on the host body: Menacanthus stramineus was found on wings and breast feathers; Menopon gallinae was found on whole body feathers; Goniocotes gallinae was found on the belly and back feathers; Goniodes dissimilis was found on wing and back feathers, whereas Lipeurus tropicalis were found on the underside of the head, neck and chin feathers.
