This paper discusses model predictive control systems for glass manufacturing processes. A special tool suite consisting of first principles‐based modeling tools, model reduction tools, state estimation techniques, and delta‐mode model predictive control tools is being developed for model‐based operation support of glass manufacturing processes. The tools are developed to support a wide range of processes in the container glass, flat glass, tableware, glass fiber, lighting glass, and TV glass manufacturing industries.
The model‐based control systems are designed for optimization of a dynamic process considering multiple objectives. The priority focus can be set on tight control of glass quality, on maximizing throughput, and on minimization of operating costs.
