The Named Data Network (NDN) feature allows for faster and more location-independent communication. However, if the requested data is not present in the NDN node's cache, the request will be fulfilled by the producer, as in the TCP/IP architecture. To address this issue and increase the likelihood that interest will be satisfied at the node, a new routing technique is introduced. This new routing technique is called Explicit Routing, which improves content cache hit rate, and decreases content delivery latency and transmission cost. This technique also reduces the possibility of the NDN router's immediate linked Content Store (CS) experiencing a cache miss rate on the initial access. With a few modifications and enhancements to the Named Data State Link Routing (NSLR) protocol, all routers advertise their Popular Content (PC) to neighboring nodes at regular intervals. A Popular Content Link State Advertisement (PCLSA) is developed for this purpose, so that the NDN router can explicitly send the PC to the neighboring routers. A modified Named Data Networking Forwarding Daemon (NFD) is employed for getting the PC from the CS of each node. Modeling and emulation methodology is used in designing and evaluating the scenarios of the new NLSR protocol. The results of the emulation investigation show significant improvement in the parameters.
