Bitstream compression is widely used to improve both communication bandwidth and memory requirement in high speed embedded systems. One of the popular bitstream compression techniques is Dictionary based bitstream compression (DBC) since it has better compression efficiency and fast decompression mechanism. The Bitmasking based compression techniques are increases the effectiveness of the DBC by recording the changed bits using bitmasks. Two efficient bitstream compression techniques with and without bitmasking are proposed for improving compression ratio (CR) and bit saving rate (BSR), named as Separated split LUT+Bit masking and Separated split LUT Algorithm. The proposed techniques are implemented in a 28 nm Qualcomm DSP core design project.
