Though COBie (Construction Operations Building Information Exchange: a subset of such data meant for FM related activities) usage has been promoted right from the conceptualization stage of construction, there is a paucity in literature that uses COBie for asset management and control from starting stage of design and construction process due to its complexity and less perceived benefits.

The aim of this study is to develop a framework for managing asset data using COBie at all stages of construction. The study is based on design thinking, which emphasize on problem formulation using iterative steps of design thinking and design science methodology. It is fundamentally a problem-solving paradigm, attempting to create things which serve human purposes by design and investigation of artefacts (like algorithms, tools etc)
