Smart homes have the potential to provide residents with services that improve their quality of life. As a result, multiple Internet of Things (IoT) based services such as energy management and remote home automation have been deployed in smart homes. However, these services are mostly built on dedicated networks and proprietary systems. As a result, the ability of stakeholders such as residents, companies and cities to extend or reuse parts of existing systems for delivering new services is limited. In addition, it is necessary for smart homes to assist cities in becoming more integrated, habitable and sustainable environments. This can be achieved by enabling cities to leverage existing smart home infrastructure to provide new services.
