The National Coordination Meeting was organized by the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries of the Republic of Indonesia (MMAF), involving key front-line actors in the surveillance system in Indonesia, working in the FMA 713. The meeting aims to identify current issues, gaps, and challenges on the surveillance performance regarding snapper/groupers and mud crab fisheries. The results were formulated into a systematic framework to address some persistent challenges in fisheries surveillance ie, lack of human resources and limited budget allocation for the provincial government. Hopefully, this exercise in FMA 713 could inspire policy makers in other FMAs facing similar challenges in their efforts to strengthen local surveillance.
