As automated driving technology continues to evolve, the need for more effective and efficient vehicle communication is expected to rise. Two technologies that have the potential to increase spectrum efficiency are cognitive radio networks (CRN) and millimeter wave communications. The use of large spectral channels at the millimeter wave frequencies could allow for higher transmission rates. Leveraging Cognitive radio capabilities in networks can increase spectrum utilization by allowing secondary users to access an underutilized spectrum. This study analyzes the security and performance of mmWave and cognitive radio communications by leveraging physical layer security via multiple Intelligent Reflecting Surfaces (IRSs) to protect communication networks from both eavesdropping and jamming threats.
