简介
This study examined the Wisconsin Card Sorting Test (WCST) performance of 56 neuropsychiatric patients referred for neuropsychological assessment. Descriptive statistics showed a high degree of impairment on the WCST in the sample as a whole. The point biserial correlations between WCST variables and frontal cerebral involvement were significant but relatively modest (0.36). There was no relation between schizophrenia or mood disorder and the WCST indices. A substantial relationship (r= 0.77) was found between the WCST and the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale-Revised (full scale IQ). In addition, hospitalization was related to WCST variables (r= 0.54), with outpatients demonstrating less impairment than inpatients. The results are discussed in terms of the validity of the WCST as a predictor of neurologic, psychiatric, and functional status in different clinical populations.
