简介
Inequality remains a pressing global concern, particularly within the context of organizations. In this conceptual paper, we present an original perspective by proposing that the adoption of artificial intelligence technologies has the potential to reduce inequalities in organizations. Given that organizations are fundamental to life and society, the reduction of inequalities within organizations could have far reaching implications. The root causes of organizational inequalities stems from flawed intellectual capital practices, hence sustainable efforts to reduce these inequalities should unquestionably, be targeted at organizational intellectual capital. To elucidate the relationship between artificial intelligence and intellectual capital in addressing organizational inequalities, we draw on the Throughput Model and the resource-based view theory. Additionally, we leverage the institutional theory to explain the change processes within the organization that could potentially result in the reduction of inequalities. Based on our analysis, theoretical propositions underpinned by the Throughput Model, are presented which can and should be tested empirically. We then suggest practical implications to strengthen strategic decision making with regards to artificial intelligence technology adoption and further enhance the resource-based view and institutional theories.
