This special issue is dedicated to methodological and theoretical advancements in research on the social impacts of tourism. Many of the 22 articles in this double special issue highlight progress in both arenas. Within this special issue, advancements are made in the way of relationships between community residents and tourists, social impacts and residents' impacts, residents' empowerment, overtourism, and methodologies - both qualitative and quantitative in nature.
