Today IP networks are evolving very rapidly. To serve the ever growing necessities of the application traffic both the links capacity and the network connectivity are in a continuous process of upgrading. Multiple routes are now available (with similar cost) to link any pair of routers. Unlike classical IP routing protocols that only use the shortest route, MPLS-TE is able to handle various paths along different routes to balance the traffic load between two points of the network. This article proposes a dynamic load balance algorithm based on the so called the maximum and the mean load thresholds defined for each LSP. The algorithm has been implemented into a Linux based MPLS lab test-bed. Preliminary results show its ability to effectively balance the load between two paths avoiding undesirable oscillations shown in previous works.
