简介
Bicycle lanes blocked by automobiles provide little benefit to cyclists. Given inadequate enforcement of these illegal maneuvers in San Francisco, CA, an online platform was created to enable citizens to log blocked bike lanes and submit them to the municipality. The platform’s popularity has led to roughly 9,500 reports in its first nine months of operation. Spatial analysis of these reports (compared to municipal citations) indicates that the city’s bike-lane network is heavily disrupted by automobiles, enforcement of blocked bike lanes does not reflect the geographic distribution of the problem, and that passenger/goods delivery vehicles are the most common perpetrators.
