It is the aim of “Cyclescapes of the Unequal City” to array and examine these dialogues, as well as to challenge the spatially-divergent provision of bicycle facilities in neighbourhoods with outsized political agency and fast-rising property values. Stehlin, an assistant professor at the University of North Carolina Greensboro, works through these issues and their theoretical implications with several cases from the Bay Area and elsewhere, including the addition of bike lanes to a rapidly-gentrifying corridor in San Francisco’s Mission District, and a similar push for cycling facilities in a diverse Oakland neighbourhood.
