Cognitive radio (CR) is one of the emerging technology to enhance the spectrum utilization for ad-hoc networks. The unlicensed users or secondary users exploit cognitive radio technology to utilize the underutilized part of licensed spectrum pool through an opportunistic spectrum access strategy. Upon detecting the arrival of the primary users in the same channel, the secondary users can perform spectrum handoff within the same spectrum pool (intrapool) or in different spectrum pools (interpool). In this paper, we present a Markovian model for opportunistic spectrum access to analyze the non-completion probability of the secondary users in a heterogeneous environment of licensed spectrum pool and unlicensed spectrum pool.
