The Delboeuf and Ebbinghaus illusions each have a rich history in the scientific study of perception and continue to contribute to our understanding of our ability to visually perceive the size of objects. In the following sections, we provide a brief history and overview of the primary observations for these classic illusions and review some theories regarding size contrast and size assimilation. Given the sheer number of studies investigating these illusions spanning more than a century, our goal is not to address all lines of research, theories, and applications but rather to give a representative sampling.(PsycInfo Database Record (c) 2023 APA, all rights reserved)
