We read with great interest the systematic review and metaanalysis of the randomized controlled trials conducted by Wu et al., which investigated the clinical efficacy of zinc (Zn) supplementation in coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) patients. 1 Based on the analysis of four studies, the authors demonstrated that there were no significant differences between Zn supplementation and control groups in terms of (a) 28-day mortality rate,(b) hospitalization rate,(c) length of hospital stay,(d) duration of symptoms,(e) symptom recovery rate, and (d) risk of adverse events. However, another study on same topic, including both randomized controlled trials and observation studies reported that lower risk of mortality (odds ratio, 0.57; 95% confidence interval (95% CI)= 0.43–0.77) was observed in COVID-19 patients receiving Zn supplement than those without Zn supplement. 2 This indicates that the effects of Zn …
