Emotional-affective geographies have developed as a sub-field within geography since Anderson and Smith’s (2001) call for greater attention to such matters within the discipline, consolidated by publications such as Davidson et al.’s (2005) Emotional Geographies, Smith et al.’s (2009) Emotion, Place and Culture, Anderson’s (2014) Encountering Affect and the journal Emotion, Society and Space. These developments mean that all students taking courses in human geography in the UK should encounter emotional-affective geographies at one or more points within their degree. Emotions may underlie and/or be explicitly addressed in relation to demography, political geography, studies of inequalities at global, regional or local scales, and modules on feminist geographies or geographies of gender, when students may be encouraged to reflect on their emotional-affective-visceral responses to data, case studies …
