The advent of 5G NR (New Radio) technology has enabled a wide range of new use cases in commercial and tactical communications, particularly in the realm of Ultra-Reliable Low-Latency Communications (URLLC). In the conventional approach supported by the 3GPP standards, URLLC transmissions tend to preempt ongoing lower-priority transmissions (such as enhanced Mobile Broadband), degrading the Quality of Service (QoS) for the preempted transmissions. This paper proposes a novel frequency-domain spread spectrum underlay signal technique to address this challenge. The proposed approach enables the immediate transmission of URLLC traffic without preemption, increasing the network’s resiliency.
