This practical manual is the second part series of laboratory practical activities for undergraduate petroleum engineering students. It covers the rudiments of experimental reservoir engineering and its applications to the petroleum industry. These basic principles were adapted in all formulated experiments for the sole purpose of adequate knowledge building of 300 level students in the Department of Petroleum Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Niger Delta University Nigeria. Chapter 1 covers the simple concept of liquid density and its measurement using inexpensive apparatus. An uncomplicated demonstration on the effect of temperature on liquid density was illustrated. Chapter 2 focuses on viscosity definitions and tools for evaluating liquid viscosity. An experimental investigation on viscosity change due to temperature effects was considered. Porosity and its implications were examined in Chapter 3. Uniform grain sizes from sieve analysis are to be used in sandpack preparation. Porosity measurement is expected to be carried out using liquid saturation method. Chapter 4 examines the concept of resistivity in the formation samples. The voltage drop method using an electric circuit was adopted to evaluate resistivity parameters of sandpacks. The basic principle of capillary pressure and its reservoir significance were summarized in Chapter 5. Laboratory determination of capillary pressure in sandpack was considered. Chapter 6 focuses on simple permeability concepts and its measurement techniques. A single phase flow experiment was formulated to measure absolute permeability in a sandpack.
