简介
Abstract
In this paper, an apparatus to track rock fragment trajectory in 3D and to study the fragmentation of natural blocks upon impact is presented. The apparatus consists of a hexagonal cell in which blocks can be dropped on a concrete surface. The impact can be recorded by three synchronised high-speed cameras. The objective of the set-up is to allow tracking of the blocks and fragments trajectory in 3D. Particular attention was paid to the estimation of the rotational velocities of fragments. This paper presents the preliminary tests conducted to investigate the influence of different parameters on the calculation of rotational velocity. Finally, results of drop tests with natural blocks are presented and the limitations of the current apparatus are discussed.
