Sol–gel derived titania xerogel films doped with Eu were fabricated on 30μm thick porous anodic alumina. The films exhibits strong, visible to the naked eye room temperature photoluminescence (PL) associated with Eu ions in the xerogel. The PL spectra have typical for Eu3+ band corresponding to 5D 0→ 7F j (j=1…4) electron transitions with the maximum at 617nm (5D 0→ 7F 2). We propose to consider the Eu-doped xerogels onto porous anodic alumina as a basis for fabrication of thin film luminescent images.
