The chapter deals with the perception of media influences and the consequences of presumed media influences. It provides an inventory starting with an outline of the central assumptions of the third-person effect and the influence of presumed media influence approach. This chapter discusses on the assumptions to be reconsidered with respect to online communication and its specific characteristics.
