The principal refractive indices of the biaxial bismuth tellurite (Bi 2 TeO 5) crystal have been measured by the minimum deviation method in the visible wavelength range at temperatures between 5 and 215 degrees C. A linear temperature dependence of the refractive indices was found. The crossing angle of the optical axes has been determined. The parameters of Sellmeier's two-term dispersion formula have been determined with their temperature coefficients. The conditions for phase-matched second harmonic generation (SHG) are discussed.
