One could consider speech to be the major, and most desirable, medium of communication, not only among human beings, but also between certain animate beings. There are several characterization paradigms for communication, for example those used in information theory and signal processing. The use of fractal techniques and fractal dimensions for speech characterization and recognition is a relatively new concept; however, it has recently garnered serious attention and interest. This book is the outcome of research that was carried out to develop sound fractal-based techniques for speech and audio signal processing. The book contains eight chapters.
