Postoperative atrial fibrillation (POAF) remains the most common complication after cardiac surgery, with an incidence of 20–50%[1, 2]. POAF is associated with perioperative morbidity, and early and long-term morbimortality [3]. Therefore, efforts to identify patients at risk to develop POAF are important. Recently, we published results about the ability of preoperative aldosterone levels to predict POAF occurrence among Caucasian patients with preserved left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF> 50%) requiring elective coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery [4].
