The paper investigates the performance of a system using non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) where the cell center and edge users are different in number as well as multiple cell edge users having same channel gain exist. The pairing between cell edge and cell center users leaves remaining edge users unpaired in this situation. Unpaired edge users can be served by orthogonal resource allocation. Virtual pairing in NOMA is also one of the solutions to serve all users. This paper proposes a purposeful channel degradation approach to make channel gain difference among the users having same channel experience and thus multiplex the users in power domain NOMA. Sum capacity of the system is investigated and compared with traditional approach where the simulation proves the capacity gain over the existing approach.
