Surveillance of healthcare-associated infections (HCAIs) is an important component of hospital infection control programmes; surveillance allows monitoring of the frequency and type of HCAIs, detects outbreaks, evaluates compliance with infection control guidelines and provides data for policy development. 1 Studies have reported up to a 30% reduction in incidence of HCAI through effective infection control programmes. 2 To attain sustained success, infection control measures must be coupled with antimicrobial stewardship. In most developing countries surveillance data pertaining to device-associated (DA)-HCAI are either limited or insufficient to estimate the exact burden.
