The way a person chooses to utilize automated vehicle systems is not yet well understood. A structural equation model of acceptance of such systems of was constructed, applying theoretical models of automation acceptance to a real survey data set. The model indicated that perceptions of system utility may be more important than user characteristics, suggesting that automated systems need to prove their utility to drivers. Additionally, research methods are suggested to fill model gaps.
