This paper reports two-bit unit cell (UC)-based coding metasurfaces (MSs) which can be suitable for wireless body area networks. The proposed UCs aid in achieving the required encoding of electromagnetic waves. Two distinct functions of designed MSs such as beam steering and multi-beam generation are demonstrated using different coding patterns. The designed UCs with various size square patches are developed on RO3003 boards. Furthermore, the realized compact digital MSs, operating at 9 GHz, possess an area of . Finally, the obtained experimental results validate the designed MSs and show their usefulness in supporting the considered application.
