Purpose: The aim of this study was to compare between in-vivo and in-vitro assessment of contact lens wettability using thin film interferometry technique.
Method: A thin film interferometer was connected to a digital camera which captured images of the pre-lens tear film in-vivo on (5 subjects, 3M & 2F, aged 29±3.5 years). 7 CL materials were used: Etafilcon A, Senofilcon A (Johnson & Johnson Vision Care); Polymacon A, Balafilcon A (Bausch & Lomb); Lotrafilcon A, Lotrafilcon B (CIBA Vision, Corp); and Omafilcon A (Cooper Vision). The interferometer was adapted to allow in vitro assessment of the similar 7 lens materials. The images were obtained from the lens surface when it was wet until it became fully dry to generate video clips.
