In this article, a low-cost biodegradable substrate is designed for antenna and other microwave applications. The substrate is designed by using dry paddy, polyester resin, methyl ethyl ketone peroxide (MEKP), and cobalt. A detail procedure for designing the substrate is discussed in details and the properties of the substrate are measured by using dielectric assessment kit and vector network analyzer. The value of the dielectric constant, loss factor, loss tangent, and conductivity obtained from the measurement are 2.43, 0.29, 0.16, and 0.12 S/m respectively. Based on substrate parameter and height an antenna is designed further for upcoming 5G application band. To improve the performance of the antenna in particular frequency band, a detailed slot analysis is carried out.
