Reconfigurable intelligent surfaces (RISs) have recently been presented as a revolutionary technique and recognized as one of the candidates for beyond fifth-generation wireless networks. The RIS technology becomes especially attractive due to its capability to operate in a full-duplex (FD) mode, which is able to ideally double the half-duplex radio spectrum efficiency. This article analyzes the performance of an RIS-aided multihop FD relaying system, where an intermediate FD relay is employed to defeat the far-field path-loss effect inherent to RIS communication links. To this end, we analytically derive exact and asymptotic closed-form expressions for the outage probability, average spectral efficiency, and average bit error rate.
