Traffic signal coordination has long been recognized as an efficient way of achieving smooth urban traffic. This paper proposes a network-level multiband signal coordination (NMBSC) scheme to provide progression bands for major traffic streams extracted from vehicle trajectory data in urban road networks. A mixed-integer linear programming (MILP) formulation is proposed to model the NMBSC problem considering both bandwidths and interband connectivity. A decomposition-based heuristic is adopted to find a near-optimal solution to the MILP in a real-size network. Extensive numerical experiments are conducted using the VISSIM simulator to evaluate the performance of the proposed scheme by comparing it with some existing approaches.
