RESULTS

Of the 647 renal transplants performed at SIUT, 633 were living-related, 12 from non–heart-beating donors and 2 from a heart beating cadaver. Of the 647 patients, 29 (4.3%) had vascular complications, 38 (5.8%) developed urologic complications (ureteric leakage/fistula) in 25 (3.8%), ureteric stenosis in 7 (1%), bladder leakage in 5 (0.7%), and calyceal leakage 2 (0.3%) cases. Complications of transplantation bed were seen in 33 (5.1%) patients, they were lymphocele in 7 (1%), perinephric haematoma in 6 (0.9%), scrotal complications in 11 (1.7%), and wound infection in 9 (1.4%). All the complications were treated successfully except in seven (0.9%) cases, which resulted in graft nephrectomy and 6 (0.8%) lead to renal dysfunction.
