The use of requirements engineering (RE) in industry is hampered by a poor understanding of its practices and their benefits, despite of the fact that it is critical to the success of a software development project. In order to have professionals who are capable of accomplishing software projects successfully, requirements engineering education is therefore an important endeavor. Much has been researched on different methodologies for software engineering education, but few studies discussing what to teach. This paper presents a document review focused on content for teaching requirements engineering and a questionnaire aimed at identifying the practices of companies in this area. The research involved 4 curriculum guidelines, 11 lesson plans, 1 certification documentation and a survey with 25 companies.
