Seven ectomycorrhizal (EM) fungi, Laccaria laccata, L. fraterna, Pisolithus tinctorius, Paxillus Involutus, Rhlzopogon vulgaris and R. luteolus were screened for production of siderophores by chrome azurol S universal plate assay. The secretion of siderophores was seen in all except L. fraterna and P. involutus. The fungi produced only hydroxamate type siderophores (HS). Their secretion was more In Iron-deficient medium than In the Iron-containing one. A good correlation between the plate assay and colorimetric assay was observed.
