Oral cancer is one of the most prevalent types of cancer in today’s world with higher rates of mortality and morbidity. Detection of this abnormality at their nascent stage is considered as quite a challenging task. Various modalities are available using which detection of this oral abnormality can be done so that further diagnosis and prognosis can be suggested. Though such modalities have good sensitivity and specificity, but are expensive and hence not affordable to the common class. The paper focuses on survey of different invasive and non-invasive modalities, their strengths, and limitations and the role they play in oral cancer detection.
