Securing password files has become a major issue these days. The password files are being hacked and the intruders are impersonating and tampering with the data. Therefore there is a need to supplement the passwords with strong authentication methods. A new approach of using emoticons as passwords and creating set of honeywords for the user's real password is putforth in this article. Emoticons give several permutations and combinations when compared to alpha-numeric, and special character combination and also produce higher bits of entropy in comparison with common password combinations. Honeywords (set of decoy passwords) will confuse and attract the intruder with decoy data. The probability of an intruder picking up a honeywords for accessing the resource is 95%.
